How DRM-X Protects a Stream From Source to Screen
Follow four steps: package encrypted media, approve viewer access, issue the device DRM license, and play through a supported browser or application. The media URL and the permission to decrypt it remain separate.

Package
Encode and encrypt the media. Publish the protected package to your storage or CDN.

Authorize
Your backend checks the viewer’s subscription, purchase, enrollment, ticket, or role.

License
DRM-X processes the device’s DRM request and issues a license under the approved playback policy.

Play
The device’s DRM system decrypts the authorized media through the supported player.

Media and licenses take separate paths
The DRM system handles protected key material. Your application does not receive clear content keys.
License delivery
Customer access check → playback authorization → device request → DRM-X license → device DRM. A customer proxy may carry the license exchange.

Core DRM terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Content ID | The content identity your backend uses to request playback of registered protected media. |
| Key ID | An identifier that connects an encrypted track to its content key. It is not the clear key. |
| DRM License Token | Bounded authorization for the DRM-X playback and license exchange. |
| DRM license | The native device response containing playback rights and protected key material. |
| CDM | The content decryption module: the device or browser component that handles DRM licenses and protected media. |
| Playback policy | Rules for security level, output, duration, quality, downloads, and concurrent viewing. |
